The Folio

The Cottage Almanac Folio is a monthly companion to the free weekly newsletter — designed as a proper publication rather than an email, and going considerably deeper into the landscape, folklore, and natural history the weekly letter introduces.
Each issue goes deep into the landscape, history, folklore, and domestic life of one National Character Area of England — a different place each month, building across the year into a complete portrait of the country.
Inside: a countryside skills guide, a named garden worth the visit, still-room recipes with historic sources, a 48-hour staycation guide with a printable field journal, a dinner party menu built around local produce, ghost stories and local legends, and a map that fills in as England is explored issue by issue.
It arrives as a designed publication on the first of each month — something to read at your own pace, save, and return to.
The Folio launches in late May 2026.
The first issue covers the South Downs in June — chalk downland, the drove roads, a walled garden at Parham, and the history of the shepherd's year.
Subscribers to the free newsletter will hear first. If you are not already receiving the letter, you can subscribe free to get the Thursday letter.
